Executive Summary: Capcom was established in Japan in 1979 as a manufacturer and distributor of electronic game machines. Capcom was originally called I.R.M. Corporation when it was founded in 1979 by Kenzo Tsujimoto. In 1983, it was renamed Capcom Co., Ltd. and soon built a reputation for introducing cutting-edge technology and software to the video game market. As a gaming industry leader, Capcom maintains a portfolio of historic franchises such as Mega Man, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Dead Rising, Monster Hunter, Sengoku Basara, Onimusha, and Ace Attorney. Capcom’s first product was the coin-operated Little League, launched in July 1983. Its first true video game, the arcade title Vulgus, was released in May 1984. In addition to the development and publishing of home, online, mobile, arcade, pachinko, and pachislot games, the company publishes strategy guides and maintains its own arcade centers in Japan (known as Plaza Capcom). Capcom also licenses its franchise and character properties for use in products, movies, television series, and stage performances. Capcom has operations in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Tokyo, with its corporate headquarters located in Osaka, Japan. These locations are managed by their respective company branches such as Capcom Japan, Capcom U.S.A, Capcom Europe, Capcom Asia, and Capcom Taiwan. Capcom currently has an annual income in the range of US$1 billion.
