Executive Summary: Yamaha Motor Company is a manufacturer of motorcycles, marine products such as boats and outboard motors, and other motorized products, including wheelchairs. The company was established in 1955, spun off from the musical instrument manufacturer Yamaha Corporation. Yamaha Motor’s initial product was a two-cycle, single cylinder motorcycle, the YA-1, which quickly helped establish the company’s reputation through success in competitive racing. The firm began setting up its international subsidiaries in the 1960s, and soon became a global brand. More recently, Yamaha Motor has also been conducting research, development, and demonstration of new mobility technologies. For instance, it has been working on the development of industrial unmanned helicopters. Another project is to expand the use of battery electric vehicles. Its annual income is in the range of US$15 billion.
