On August 21, world-class Japanese baseball player, Ichiro Suzuki of the New York Yankees, achieved a historic milestone - a total of 4,000 hits in his professional career in Japan and U.S. combined. He hit into the left field for a base hit during the first inning against the Toronto Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium.

He became the first professional Japanese baseball player in history to have achieved 4,000 hits, and in Major league, he is the 3rd person who recorded it after Pete Rose and Ty Cobb.

 

Massive lightning strikes moving train in Tokyo

 

During the summer in Japan, we can sometimes expect a torrential downpour in late afternoon. It's really scary because all of a sudden the color of the sky turns yellow and deafening rumbles of thunder start.   

Today we had a sudden temporary heavy downpour as usual and that reminded us of this currently popular youtube video. Probably many of you have already seen it as it was uploaded about 10 days ago. Massive lightning hit a moving Odakyu train in Tokyo. A part of the train was burnt, but fortunately no one on the train was hurt.

Vanilla Air - Can this Japanese Low-Cost Carrier Differentiate Itself?


AirAsia Japan, one of Japan's low-cost carriers (LCCs), in an effort to differentiate itself, yesterday announced that it will change its brand and company name to "Vanilla Air" in November.  

AirAsia Japan was jointly established in July 2011 by ANA and AirAsia (Malaysia) and started flying in August, 2012, but has struggled in competition with other full service and low-cost airlines.
