AkihabaraNews.com Editor & Content Curator
Reno is a generalist researcher and commentator on robotics, cybernetics, non-biological intelligence, transhumanism, and the social & economic dynamics of large-scale technology investment. And other stuff he finds important or just, you know, cool.

Influences include ethnographic sociology, academic reporting, Freakonomics, Carl Sagan, Kurzweilian logic, stand-up comedy, being just old enough to remember life before the internet, and childhood access to his grandmother’s extensive collection of sci-fi literature.

Reno spends the bulk of his free time composing intentionally run-on sentences, supporting the pro-semicolon lobby, and just kind of making up punctuation.

Japanese Technology from the Future Friday!

This week we marvel at how Japan has now purchased a billion tons of Australia, and we lament the fact that increasing levels of developmental disability have taken all the fun out of playfully insulting and berating Japanese anti-nuclear activists. It’s just so...sad now.

Japanese Technology from the Future SATURDAY but was Supposed to Be Friday!

This week it’s Japan thinking about investing a bunch of cash and tech into cancer treatment in India, which is nice, NTT Data Canada has significantly upped some jobs predictions in Nova Scotia, and even we're saying "NTT Data Canada?", and SCHAFT Robotics has left the DARPA building, which is kind of a bummer, but intriguing.

This week China's getting international train tech contracts instead of Japan, but it's in Pakistan so Japan just kinda shrugs, China's Puxing Energy and Japan's NEC have canceled the East Asian War in favor of cooperating on a huge energy grid project, and there's just no easy way to say it: 2014 INTERNATIONAL TOKYO TOY SHOW!

This week it seems that J-Convenience store giant Lawson has become something of startup funder, and a professor of sports and stuff at Tsukuba University has declared the FIFA 2014 World Cup ball to be “MADE OF NINJA THROWING STARS!!” ...okay, maybe the translation is off a bit on that last part.

JTFF - Japanese Technology from the Future Friday! - AkihabaraNews.com

This week it’s Japanese researchers tacking orders of magnitude greater performance onto solid state computer memory (SSD), and Panasonic has gone public with its plans to be the sole battery provider for the awesomely sexy Tesla Motors’ electric automobiles...which, technically and unfortunately, still run on fossil fuels.
