Canon - "Macro Ring Light MR-14EX II" for EOS series

Canon is releasing "Macro Ring Light MR-14EX II" for its EOS series for ¥80,000 on April 25.

It is an external strobe light that gives a flash light evenly to subjects and it's suitable for macro photography. There is a two-lamp light-emitting system. You have the option of emitting light from only a single lamp and you can control the light amount.

The guide number is 14 (ISO 100, m).

ZERO-I, a new coating technology that achieves outstanding improvements in resistance to wear and heat

Seavac has been researching the conventional coating technologies using TiN, Ti-Al, and CrN, and developed ZERO-I, a new coating that combines the advantages of all three.

"The hardness is about 3,500 HV. This coating is heat-resistant to over 1,000 degrees. Conventional Ti-Al coatings were heat-resistant to nearly 900 degrees, but this coating has even better heat resistance, and hardness as well."

Hatsune Miku joins Lady GaGa's concert as opening act

Hatsune Miku is going to join Lady GaGa's world tour "LADY GAGA’S artRAVE: the ARTPOP ball" and will be performing as an opening act at 16 venues in North America from May 6 until June 3.

This is Miku's first time to participate in a musician's live concert tour. Japanese geekiness will spread to North America via Lady GaGa!

Hatsune Miku also participated recently in a duet with Japanese music group, BUMP OF CHICKEN.

 

Toshiba - The World's first UHS-II microSD card

Toshiba today started shipment of sample products of a new microSD card to companies such as mobile device manufacturers.  The micro SD card supports the ultra-fast UHS-II interface standard for the first time in the industry.

There is a 32GB model (THNSX032GAJCM4) and 64GB model (THNSX064GBK5M4).

The 32GB model has a read speed of 260MB/s and a write speed of 240MB/s, which is an 8 times faster read speed and 2.7 times faster write speed than Toshiba's current UHS-I compliant model (MUH-A032G).

Sony sells share of Square Enix

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary company of Sony, has just announced that they gave up all 9,520,000 shares they have (equivalent to 4.8 billion yen) of the Japanese video gaming developing company, Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd, and have transferred them to SMBC Nikko Securities Inc.

Square Enix is well-know for its Final Fantasy series and the Dragon Quest series.
