Directer Isao Takahata receives honorary award at international animated film festival

On June 9, one of the world's largest animated film festivals, The Annecy International Animation Film Festival (AIAFF) started in Annecy, France. And we had great news from there today.

Studio Ghibli's 78-year old Director Isao Takahata received an honorary award to celebrate his career and contribution to animation at the festival. The audience welcomed him to the stage with loud applause.

He is the first Japanese person to receive this award.

Green House - LED lantern lights up with electricity generated by water and salt

Green House is going to release an LED lantern in mid-June that generates electricity by water and salt.

It doesn't need any batteries or electric charge. Just by pouring salt water into the lantern, ion seeps out of the built-in magnesium metallic bar and generates electric power.

Ocean water can be used so that it could be the perfect tool for emergencies and outdoor activity.

Sinfonia - Resola - solar panel cleaning robot

Sinfonia Technology is planning to release a solar panel cleaning robot "Resola" in autumn 2014.

Resola is like a solar panel version of the iRobot Roomba, and understands its surrounding environment with a sensor and determines its own cleaning path. It cleans up a solar panel with a wiper, brush and pouring water the same way that Roomba vacuums a room.

Make your own 3D figure doll at Tokyo Skytree

Mutoh Engineering is currently holding a printing service event where you can make your own 3D figure dolls at Tokyo Solamachi, a shopping mall at Tokyo Skytree.

This is a collaborated event with Digitizer, a French scanner manufacture. It's open from 10 A.M. to 9 P.M every day until June 11.
