So finally after the review, here’s the comparative between the Sony Handycam HDR-TG1 and the Sanyo Xacti HD1000, I underlined the most important thing and put in green the points that seemed the most attractive. Enjoy!

Conclusion:
Neither is really better than the other , each having its own advantages and weaknesses. But as a general rule, professionals prefer the Sanyo Xacti HD1000 thanks to its optical options, the possibility to put an external microphone and the multitude of other options which suits to customers’ needs. Sony, with its Handycam HDR-TG1, aims clearly the general public who wants HD in his/her pocket, without any extras… it loses on ergonomics and menus, if you are apt to change theHDR-TG1 settings.

For now, the current market price for the HD1000 is half as much as the HDR-TG1 (probably simply because of how new to the market the TG1 is and its brand name), so, as Sanyo seems to have more video modes, longer battery life, uses SD memory cards which have become insanely cheap, and many other options that are simply not available on the Sony, this should give them a very good advantage. We imagine that there will be another Full HD Xacti announced soon (the HD1000 has been on the market for 1 year now) and we hope it receives an update correcting the weaknesses we have found during our review.

Sony is still new at the ‘ergonomic’ or vertical style, and will surely improve upon the TG1 as time goes by. Just because they are a little late in the game for these types of cameras doesn’t mean that they won’t come out with an incredible product to knock our socks off in the future, but for now, its really a simple matter of taste as to what you prefer regarding the cameras available today.

In conclusion, as each camera has its advantages and disadvantages and certainly both have been designed well, everyone should find the device which corresponds to their own needs, as both are should make their owner happy as long as they are purchased with the foreknowledge of the weaknesses/strengths of their camera.

The picture quality of the Sony is "awful" ? What do you mean by "better to make video screenshot?"

Also, what about low light capabilities of each camera? And especially, focusing in low light?

For me the Sony just plain sucks because of the short battery life.

Can you guys create a split screen video from both products? It would be nice to see the difference in quality side by side.

I agree with gb - can you bind the two of them together somehow and record the same view, then splice the two vids? That would be the best way to compare them.

Hi guys, i had two of those and i chose to stay with Sony - its much better and i really don't care about additional lenses or mics. because its pocket camera - for those who need extra buy regular Sony SD11/12 and will be full satisfy. Image its much better even with photo shot. Both cameras had same problem with format as its not wide popular like standard MP4 or Dvix - AVCHD still require additional video editing or Blu-Ray DVD player that support that format because not every Blu-Ray player can decode that format. And did anybody try to hold Sanyo - gun style cam? Its so uncomfortable and easy to drop. So i guess this review is only base on personal love buy person who made that review. Same like who love iProducts the rest is "garbage"

I have the HD1000 cam since December, I have a different opinion with the last person's comment about the pistol grip. I think the Sanyo is much more stable, and you can hold it with 2 hands or use your elbow resting against your own body to stabilize the shots.
I have no doubt about that Sony is smaller, but smaller it is, the harder to keep it stable.
Check out this 720p sample .. I think the quality is a bit too soft, and notice the halo around bright objects......

What about a comparison with the IQ in video quality between the Sanyo HD1000 and the Panasonic 3ccd SDR150?
Both vertical camcorder recording on SD flash memory.
How could compare the best XP quality video setting on the Panasonic respect to the HD 720p of the Sanyo? The are now both in the same price range. I know the Panasonic is older not been an HD camcorder bust with still vaulable points: 3ccd, optical stabilizer.
