Olympus - Cylindrical interchangeable lens camera "Olympus Air A01"

Olympus announced the release date of their new cylindrical Micro Four Thirds interchangeable lens camera "Olympus Air A01."

It will be released on March 25, only in Japan.

The Olympus Air A01 has all normal camera functionality such as an effective 16.05MP 4/3-inch LiveMOS image sensor and the TruePicVII image processor in its body, but a smartphone is to be attached and used as the camera's monitor.

It pairs via both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. NFC is not supported, but the initial connection setup is pretty easy. Once you finish the set up, a dedicated application activates the Olympus Air A01 automatically every time it is connected.

The camera resembles the Sony QX series, but the fundamental selling approach is different. Olympus' take is to use an open platform camera that's friendly to app vendors and whatever they can come up with.
