Sony - Alpha 5100 - Mirrorless camera with 179-point AF sensor

Mirrorless interchangeable lens camera - α5100 - will be released by Sony on September 5.

α5100 inherited the Fast Hybrid AF combining 179-point phase detection and 25-point contrast detection from the flagship model α6000. The exterior design looks like the α5000.

α5100 has an effective 24.3MP Exmor APS-C CMOS sensor, BIONZ X image processor, 3-inch 180-degree tiltable touch panel monitor (0.92MP) and Wi-Fi and NFC function. It covers from ISO 100 up to 25600.

Regarding shooting movies, α5100 supports AVCHD as well as XAVC S, and it is capable of shooting full HD movies at 50Mbps. While recording full HD movies in AVCHD or XAVC S, it can simultaneously record MP4 movies that makes it easy for you to share on the internet.

Sony has just announced that they are going to release new mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera α6000 on March 14.

Nikon is going to release a simple-looking compact digital camera COOLPIX P340 for about ¥45,000 on January 27.

COOLPIX P340 has an optical 5X zoom lens with a focal length of 5.1-25.5mm (equivalent to 24-120mm in 35mm format), 1/1.7 backlight CMOS sensor (effective 12.19 MP), 3-inch TFT LCD monitor (0.92M dots) and Wi-Fi function.

Black and white color models will be available.

Canon is going to release the rugged compact digital camera PowerShot D30 for about ¥31,800 on March 13.

PowerShot D30 has waterproof protection that works at 25 meters below the surface of the sea and is shockproof up to 2 meters. It supports GPS functions, but not Wi-Fi.

It features an effective 12.1MP 1/2.3 inch CMOS sensor, optical 5X lens that covers a focal distance of 28 to 140mm (35mm equivalent), wide-open aperture F3.9-F4.8, ISO 100-3200, and 3 inch TFT LCD monitor (0.46M dots).

Panasonic unveiled their new LUMIX mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera DMC-GH4 which is now displayed at CP+ 2014 currently taking place in Yokohama, Japan. It is the world's first MILC that is able to shoot 4K quality movies (Cinema 4K: 4096x2160 / 24 fps and QFHD 4K: 3840x2160 / up to 30 fps) in MOV/MP4.

Restarting the Fire
Beginning late last year, AkihabaraNews rededicated itself to conducting more in-depth, multimedia product reviews. It’s gone well: contributors and editors have doubled down, and both the results and response have been great (Thanks, readers!).

Sony is going to release the new Cyber-shot DSC-HX400V for about ¥51,000 on April 4.

DSC-HX400V features an effective 20.4 MP 1/2.3 inch Exmor R CMOS sensor, image processor BIONZ X (same as the ones used for their mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera "α7" series), and optical 50X Carl Zeiss Vario-SonnarT* lens (equivalent to 24-1200mm in 35mm format). It also has GPS, NFC and Wi-Fi functions, Multi Interface Shoe (MIS) and 0.2 inch electric view finder (20.1M dots) and tiltable 3-inch LCD monitor (0.92M dots).

Canon's new compact digital camera PowerShot N100 is going to be released on April 17 for about ¥34,800.

One of the features of the PowerShot N100 is its sub-camera with 25mm wide-angle lens called Story Camera. The camera takes the photographer's face as well as the subject when the shutter button is pressed.

 

The neurocam is the world's first wearable camera system that automatically records what interests you.

It consists of a headset with a brain-wave sensor and connects to an iPhone. The system estimates whether you're interested in something from the brain-waves captured by the sensor, and uses the iPhone's camera to record the scenes that appear to interest you.

Just buy wearing the neurocam, the scenes you have shown an interest in are recorded automatically, and are added to an album which you can look through later.

Worth every yen in build and image, but still a tall order for all but the most heavily invested professionals.
