Remember that Nissan Video Game Concept Car from 10 Days Ago? Yeah, They Made One.

We Totally Saw it Coming. Well... Virtually.

Nissan and Polyphony Digital officially unveiled Nissan "Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo." It is a virtual sport car made for "Gran Turismo 6" (a game software) for PlayStation3.

Polyphony Digital is a subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment and develops video games. They are well known as a developer of the Gran Turismo Series.  

This project started off by Nissan's talented young designers from Nissan Design Europe designing their dream sport cars. And then, engineers from Nissan Technical Center provided feedbacks regarding the technical issues to make the virtual car legitimate.  

Nissan "Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo" will be available though free update of "Gran Turismo 6", starting sometime in July 2014.

So okay, all fine and good. Awesome virtual concept car heading for Gran Turismo 6. That's pretty cool, and the story could just as well end there, but oh no...

Yeah, they went ahead and built one. And it's quite a bit sexier in real life.

Whether or not it's meatspace-driveable, that's an unknown, but PS3 gamers will get their hands on the virtual version soon enough. Have a look - excellent video at the end, too:

Toyota has just released its first hybrid full-time 4WD for its Crown series  (Majesta, Royal, and Athlete).

All the new models have a hybrid system that combines 2.5-liter 2AR-FSE engine and motor, torsen LSD transfer and newly-developed hybrid transmission. Regarding high fuel-efficiency, the Royal series and Athlete series offer 21.0km/liter and Majesta offers 19.0km/liter.


Nissan announced that they are going to release a special premium model of their JUKE - Premium Personalized Package - on December 17. Only 300 cars will be available.

The special model is based on "16GT FOUR Type V", "16GT Type V", and 15RX Type V, and it features a color called Midnight Purple IV, which changes its own color to violet-blue, violet-red, red and orange depending on your viewing angle, for its exterior.

Price range: ¥1,720,950 - ¥2,634,450




Japanese convenience store, FamilyMart, just announced they are installing charging stations for next‐generation vehicles (EV, Electric Vehicle/ PHEV, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) at roughly 500 of its stores all over Japan after this summer.

As of this month, 34 FamilyMart stores already have charging stations installed.

The dominant themes were connectivity amongst a range of eco/green vehicles, and correspondingly, most of the cars seemed a version of a semi-morphed, slightly squeezed or widened Prius; or too close to a racecar to be practical; or very small with questionable utility.

Toyota & Hino Bring Fuel Cell Tech to Municipal Buses
Readers might remember Toyota's recent global rollout of the MIRAI sedan, for which the TFCS was developed. This new bus, incorporating the same system, is equipped with s 2 fuel cell stacks, 2 motors, and 8 hight pressure hydrogen tanks.
Mitsuoka Motors is going to release a premium model for 2015 of their 2-seater convertible car Mitsuoka Himiko on January 30. They are limited to only 15 cars and will be sold for ¥4,914,000 or more.

Daihatsu unveiled new technology used for their new convertible kei-car (light automobile) - COPEN - that is scheduled to be released in July. It is planned to be available for less than 2 million yen (USD 20,000).

A newly developed framework based on a frame and monocoque construction called D-Frame is used, where the car's external parts give it support and stability.

Subaru announced the release of WRX S4 and WRX STI, new 2 models from their Sports Sedan WRX Series.

Both of them feature a powerful 2.0 liter horizontally opposed 4 DOHC direct-injection turbo engine. Subaru made WRX S4 for all ages by putting more importance on fuel economy performance and safe performance, while Subaru honed drivability with the suspension system and high-power output (308ps/422Nm) for WRX STI.

Takara Tomy is going to release a Mothra (one of the Toho tokusatsu monster characters) version of Tomica for 700 yen on December 26 from its Dream Tomica series.

Tomica is a series of Takara Tomy die-cast toy vehicles. Its Dream Tomica series has collaborations with well-known characters including Mario, Godzilla and Snoopy.

On the same day, Kumamon's police car will be released for 700 yen. It's a police car with a Kumamon face on the front.

At the Manufacturing Business Matching Fair, Kamine Seiki exhibited technology for manufacturing high quality, low cost vehicle transmission equipment, so-called differential gears, and other components using net shape technology that is now being developed through governmental support.

Hokkaido University and RIKEN AICS are researching aerodynamics simulation, to simulate the air flow around automobiles.
Investigating the force exerted by air on a moving car is essential for improving fuel efficiency and safety. In particular, using a supercomputer called K has made it possible to simulate air resistance, which is the most important factor, with a precision equivalent to wind tunnel tests.
