Toyota - New FCV (Fuel Cell Vehicle) SEDAN Debuts

Toyota unveiled their first commercially-available FCV (Fuel Cell Vehicle). This new-type FCV is based on the SEDAN series.

Regarding their EVs (Electric Vehicles), Toyota still has a major challenge in the lack of ubiquity of charging stations, and because of that, its sales have hit a wall. So to promote their FCVs, what would Toyota do about the expansion of hydrogen charging station from now on?

According to Toyota, since EVs have a limited distance until running out of a charge, a few thousand charging stations for them are necessary. On the other hand, FCVs are able to run more than 500km, so they don't need as many charging stations as EVs. Toyota assumes that 40 charging stations could be enough to cover FCV users living in Tokyo's 23 wards.

With the government's support, infrastructure improvement is being planned to happen soon, with focus around Japan's 4 biggest cities. So, Toyota is hoping to expand the number of charging stations through close coordination with local communities.
