Panasonic - LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 - the world's first 4K-capable compact digital camera

Panasonic announced that they are going to release the world's first compact digital camera with 4K video recording capability - LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 - on July 17.

It will be sold for around 100,000 yen.

LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 is able to record 4K video (3,840×2,160) at up to 30 fps in the MP4 format. There is also a built-in functionality called "4K PHOTO" to capture 8MP images in the 4K video footage. It can also output 1920×1080 60fps full HD resolution video.

LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 has optical 16X zoom LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens that covers a focal distance of 25 to 400mm (35mm equivalent) and has an effective 20.1MP 1.0 inch MOS sensor, 3.0 inch vari-angle LCD monitor, and organic EL view finder (2.36M dots). As storage media, it supports SDXC/SDHC/SD memory cards.

It provides ultra-fast 0.09 seconds auto-focus performance and 0.66 seconds start-up time. To make it easy to pair it up with smartphones, Wi-Fi, NFC, and QR code are supported.

Nikon announced that they are going to start selling a new compact digital single reflex camera model with full size sensor - "D610" - on October 19.

Major features such as full size sensor, image processor, AF sensor, etc. are the same as the previous model "D600", however, continuous shooting speed was improved to 6fps and the new "Silent Continuous Shooting Mode", that enables continuous shooting at 3fps in the silent mode, was added.

 

Good news coming from Olympus.

Olympus released a press release today in which they apologized about a short supply of their new camera's lens kit - "OLYMPUS OM-D E-M1 12-40mmF2.8 Lens Kit" - that is scheduled to be out on October 19.

The reason for the shortage is that they have gotten more orders than expected.

Panasonic has announced the Lumix GM, an ultra compact 16MP Micro Four Thirds camera, which will be released in Japan in late November.

"This camera uses the same sensor and engine as the GX7 which was released last month. The GX' features extremely high image quality and has received various awards around the world. We have packed the high image quality of the GX7 into this camera."
