Asratec - V-Sido OS for humanoid robot

SoftBank group is showing that it is really serious about the humanoid robot business.

SoftBank's subsidiary company, Asratec Corp. today introduced control software for humanoid robots - called V-Sido OS. They expect that V-Sido OS will be installed in future robots which will be introduced by many companies.

Usually robots generate an action based on preliminarily-stored information. However, V-Sido OS produces movement in a real-time basis. It also automatically corrects movements in order for the robot not to fall - it holds the robot steady, for example when the robot receives a sudden shock or doesn't get proper footing while walking.

It's compatible with every sized robot from 40cm-tall to 4-meters tall.

Moreover, Asratec unveiled a concept humanoid robot using V-Sido OS - "ASRA C1".

ASRA C1 is a bipedal robot, while Pepper, the robot for which SoftBank recently executed an extensive launch is not.

ASRA C1 can be controlled by using a smartphone. Using the Kinect sensor, it is capable of imitating human movement. Also, by putting a head mount display on ASRA C1, a user can see what the robot is looking at. It could play a part in disaster-relief activited by remote control.

Following video shows what V-Sido OS is (in Japanese language):

EDITOR'S NOTE:
If a whole lot of this is sounding familiar, that means you have a relatively high level of robo-geekery, and you'll want to check out last year's Japan’s Kuratas vs. The U.K.’s Mantis: Pure Science Robot Showdown!, wherein the now-owned-by-SoftBank V-Sido OS found it's first moments of fame.

JTFF - Japanese Technology from the Future Friday! - AkihabaraNews.com

This week it's robots, robots, and more robots. iREX robots have hijacked the JTFF - but true to form, the 60 images in this gallery represent the news that was in fact going down here in Japan today. We'll have more to say about iREX next week, but for now: Photos. Of. Robots! We hope you enjoy (we definitely, totally, absolutely did).

Japan’s premier robot expo is over, and all that remains of iREX 2013 are the things we learned, contacts we made, and the videos, photos, and desperate attempts to effectively communicate the breadth of what exactly went down. Something beyond Wow, it was like… so many awesome robots.” Not so easy, that.

Akihabaranews.com - The Creators Project - Box

We found this amazing example of "technology meets art" from The Creators Project.

This video is called "Box" and this what they said about it:

Box explores the synthesis of real and digital space through projection-mapping on moving surfaces. The short film documents a live performance, captured entirely in camera.

CCP is going to roll out the new and improved cleaning robot MOCORO CZ-562 on July 26.

MOCORO CZ-562 is a ball-type mopping robot made of microfiber and collects dust and hairs by rolling on the floor. It doesn't look mechanical like iRobot's Roomba. It's more like a fluffy stuffed animal.

The Hagiwara Lab in the Department of Information and Computer Science of Keio University's Faculty of Science and Technology is trying to realize a robotic brain that can carry on a conversation, or in other words, a robotic brain that can understand images and words and can carry on thoughtful communication with humans.

Japanese Technology from the Future SATURDAY but was Supposed to Be Friday!

This week it’s Japan thinking about investing a bunch of cash and tech into cancer treatment in India, which is nice, NTT Data Canada has significantly upped some jobs predictions in Nova Scotia, and even we're saying "NTT Data Canada?", and SCHAFT Robotics has left the DARPA building, which is kind of a bummer, but intriguing.

Auto Mee S Cleaning Robots - AkihabaraNews.com

【Published February 5, 2013 - Top 13 of '13

Takara TOMY Company, Ltd., the Japanese toy company, just released a tiny cleaning robot, called the “Auto Mee S”, designed for cleaning smartphone and tablet LCD displays.

This is a fun gadget to have and would be a great gift that I would love to get…

Sega Toys recently released a white cat robot, Yume Neko Celeb, for 11,000 yen.

It is made for those who wants to have a pet but their apartment/condo rules don't allow them to enjoy a life with a pet. The cat robot snuggles, purrs and meows like an actual cat.

Sega Toys also released a yellow chick robot, Yume Hiyoko, on the same day. It moves like an actual chick by moving its wings and saying peep-peep.
