Asratec - V-Sido OS for humanoid robot

SoftBank group is showing that it is really serious about the humanoid robot business.

SoftBank's subsidiary company, Asratec Corp. today introduced control software for humanoid robots - called V-Sido OS. They expect that V-Sido OS will be installed in future robots which will be introduced by many companies.

Usually robots generate an action based on preliminarily-stored information. However, V-Sido OS produces movement in a real-time basis. It also automatically corrects movements in order for the robot not to fall - it holds the robot steady, for example when the robot receives a sudden shock or doesn't get proper footing while walking.

It's compatible with every sized robot from 40cm-tall to 4-meters tall.

Moreover, Asratec unveiled a concept humanoid robot using V-Sido OS - "ASRA C1".

ASRA C1 is a bipedal robot, while Pepper, the robot for which SoftBank recently executed an extensive launch is not.

ASRA C1 can be controlled by using a smartphone. Using the Kinect sensor, it is capable of imitating human movement. Also, by putting a head mount display on ASRA C1, a user can see what the robot is looking at. It could play a part in disaster-relief activited by remote control.

CCP is going to roll out the new and improved cleaning robot MOCORO CZ-562 on July 26.

MOCORO CZ-562 is a ball-type mopping robot made of microfiber and collects dust and hairs by rolling on the floor. It doesn't look mechanical like iRobot's Roomba. It's more like a fluffy stuffed animal.

The Hagiwara Lab in the Department of Information and Computer Science of Keio University's Faculty of Science and Technology is trying to realize a robotic brain that can carry on a conversation, or in other words, a robotic brain that can understand images and words and can carry on thoughtful communication with humans.

Sinfonia Technology is planning to release a solar panel cleaning robot "Resola" in autumn 2014.

Resola is like a solar panel version of the iRobot Roomba, and understands its surrounding environment with a sensor and determines its own cleaning path. It cleans up a solar panel with a wiper, brush and pouring water the same way that Roomba vacuums a room.

Taihei Environmental Science Center has developed a system that automatically performs water quality testing, and can detect bacteria such as E. coli. In the past, this work had to be done manually. The system uses three robots to completely automate all stages of the process, from collecting a predetermined amount of the sample, injecting agar, agitating, coagulating and inverting, to the placement and storage of the culture in incubators. This level of automation not only eliminates human error, substantially improving test accuracy, it also increases processing capacity.

Unlike the previous robots in the OMNIBOT series, which are obedient and easy to control, Hello!DINO sometimes becomes naughty. Especially when you pull its tail, it will go berserk and begin roaring, biting and chasing you.
