Mercedes-Benz meets Super Mario Bros. in a new TV commercial for GLA

Unusual combination but so cool!

Has anyone imagined that Mario from Super Mario Bros. would be driving around in one of the most luxurious cars? Well, currently he is driving a Mercedes in the TV commercial for the new Mercedes-Benz GLA.

The TV commercial called "GO! GLA" just went out today. Mercedes-Benz used Super Mario Bros. fun, thrilling, and adventurous aspects to promote GLA's agility and high ground-covering ability.

I don't want to spoil the commercial for you, but the ending is funny and well thought out.

Also, GLA was added to the car line-up in the new Mario Kart 8 for Wii U (released on May 29). It's available online as additional content.

A bit of a surprise, we felt; not a whole lotta design risks being taken at this year's show. The dominant themes were connectivity amongst a range of eco/green vehicles, and correspondingly, most of the cars seemed a version of a semi-morphed, slightly squeezed or widened Prius; or too close to a racecar to be practical; or very small with questionable utility.
