Mt. Fuji & a Half-Marathon: Could there be a Better Backdrop? (PHOTOS)

Mt. Fuji Half-Marathon Shots -

Amazing Place to Be a Runner
An AkihabaraNews editor (definitely not Reno) recently participated in the Fuji Susono Half Marathon, held in Susono, Shizuoka Prefecture, southwest of the Tokyo Metro Area - about 70 miles (112 km) from Shinjuku Station (MAP).

Susono itself is situated just southeast of Mt. Fuji, and as you can see in the photos here and below, it was an amazing day and a fantastic location for a race.

For Those Who Run
Not all AkihabaraNews editors would subject themselves to running a half-marathon (or even...running. At all. Reno.), but for our one brave marathoner who took this excursion, all reports are that it was well worth it.
In fact, what better backdrop could one possibly want?

Take a look at all the great shots below, followed by a few from the drive home: sunset over a small rice field and Mt. Fuji.

Japan, FTW.

It can't be all tech all the time, so each week AkihabaraNews editors set out to collect 10 high-res shots of average, public Tokyo life. Some of the Street Shots scream and grab the eye, some are subtle and nuanced, and some are quite mundane. In any case, we feel lucky to be here and privileged to share the Tokyo that we see.

If Tokyo is a too-cool-for-school designer with the effortlessly stylish outfit, Osaka is wearing dad jeans while fixing your stereo. Japan’s third-largest city becomes its second-largest during the workday, and its nighttime streets reward those who give them more than a casual glance.

Mainstream Japanese society is boring. One could argue that mainstream society globally is never exciting, but the homogenous nature and stubborn adherence to routines and social hierarchies make this island nation particularly dull.
