Kura Corporation - Traumatic Caramel Banana Sushi

Really?

The Japanese reasonably priced rotating Sushi chain, Kura Corportation, known as Kura Zushi in Japan, just unveiled 2 new questionable sushi dishes: Caramel Banana Sushi and Caramel Corn Mayo.

They were created as a collaboration project between Kura Corporation and the Japanese major confectionery company, Morinaga & Company. They're going to be available for a limited time until July 17.

Just looking at them, made me reject the idea of eating them immediately. Sliced banana with caramel sauce or corn mixed with caramel and mayonnaise on top of vinegary rice? Seriously?!

According to Kura Corporation, people can enjoy Caramel Banana Sushi as a dessert, and Caramel Corn Mayo could be popular among kids. The savory and sweet combination is addictive.

Wait a minute! Don't we regularly complain how bad the Japanese food served overseas is? Weren't we very excited to share with the world what the real "Washoku" (Japanese food) was when we it was registered as an intangible cultural heritage?

Well, probably these new dishes will be more accepted by people from other countries who are more open-minded about sushi...

"Bento" is now a common word around the world, so many of you might know that bento box means a Japanese-style lunch box.  Wouldn't it make you happy if you can eat a warm homemade lunch anytime you want without using a microwave oven?

Akihabaranews.com - JAL - AIR Mos

Do you remember that we wrote that Japan Airlines (JAL) served KFC's combo as a flight meal on their international flights? It is a limited time offer meal and will be available until February 28.

Let's go on a journey to all of Hokkaido, Tohoku, Okinawa and Hawaii within 30 minutes!

Oh Family Mart, you care so much about steamed buns…

Family Mart is going to release cute nikuman versions of Gachapin and Mukku. They were born in the old-school Japanese TV program for children "Hirake! Ponkikki" and are still much loved characters.

Today, Acecook announced that they are going to release the EDGE Onikara Yakisoba (Onikara means literally "Devil-Spicy" meaning insanely-hot fried noodles) on May 12.

I guess that Japanese people generally are not good at spicy food, so dishes called "super-hot" here in Japan might be considered only medium spicy by foreign people. But hopefully Acecook won't disappoint us with its level of the spiciness, and can live up to its Onikara name!

Potato chips… meet Colonel Sanders!

Calbee and Kentucky Fried Chicken collaborated to make a new type of potato chips that will be out on January 6.

The flavor is Colonel Crispy, which is based on KFC's "Colonel Crispy" boneless crispy fried chicken.  The chips have stronger garlic and soy sauce taste added on. Sounds like a seriously delicious taste!

Cold soba noodle is one of the most refreshing dishes to eat during the hot summer in Japan. But it's so good that it may be served too often in the same way and family members will eventually get really bored with it.

So, a famous blogger Miyachan invented a cold soba noodle dish that is cute and attractive to look at. It's a "TOTORO" Tororo Soba - Studio Ghibli's TOTORO-shaped buckwheat soba noodle with tororo (grated gooey Nagaimo yam)!

Original recipe makes 1 serving:

From Ezaki Glico's famous Pocky series, new Pocky Panda will be released on March 11.

Of course, it's not a panda flavored Pocky. It has a cookies & cream flavor and the contrast of the dark cookie and white cream reminds us of the color of pandas.

In addition to the regular package that has a panda design on, there seems to be a rare version of the package with a fluffy panda on it.

Can you tell the panda on the box at the right side is fluffy?
