Ricoh Imaging - 51.4MP CMOS PENTAX 645Z - Out June 27

Ricoh Imaging unveiled their new medium format camera "PENTAX 645Z" last month. Today they announced that they are going to release it on June 27.

The estimated price is 864,000 yen. The price seems reasonable when compared to other products with the same image sensor.

It's a model targeted at high-level amateur or professional photographers and is an upgrade on the PENTAX 645D, released in July, 2010.

PENTAX 645Z improved its resolving power with the image processor PRIME III and its low-pass filterless mechanism. As an image sensor, a newly developed 51.4MP CMOS sensor was applied, (the previous model had a 40MP CCD). The dimensions of the new CMOS are 43.8x32.8mm, which are the same as the previous model.  

PENTAX 645Z features a 3.2-inch tiltable LCD monitor (1.037M dots), the first tiltable monitor for Pentax's digital single-lens reflex camera. It reaches a maximum ISO 204800 with improved noise performance.

It features a frame rate of 3.0 FPS, SAFOX 11 Autofocus, lens-shift image stabilization system and 27-focus-point layout. The shutter speed is up to 1/4000 seconds.

announced that the number of advanced orders of PENTAX K-3 Prestige Edition has reached the available quantity of 2,000 units, and they stopped taking any more of its orders.


Nikon announced that they are going to start selling a new compact digital single reflex camera model with full size sensor - "D610" - on October 19.

Major features such as full size sensor, image processor, AF sensor, etc. are the same as the previous model "D600", however, continuous shooting speed was improved to 6fps and the new "Silent Continuous Shooting Mode", that enables continuous shooting at 3fps in the silent mode, was added.

 

Good news coming from Olympus.

Olympus released a press release today in which they apologized about a short supply of their new camera's lens kit - "OLYMPUS OM-D E-M1 12-40mmF2.8 Lens Kit" - that is scheduled to be out on October 19.

The reason for the shortage is that they have gotten more orders than expected.

Panasonic has announced the Lumix GM, an ultra compact 16MP Micro Four Thirds camera, which will be released in Japan in late November.

"This camera uses the same sensor and engine as the GX7 which was released last month. The GX' features extremely high image quality and has received various awards around the world. We have packed the high image quality of the GX7 into this camera."

"The compact body is made of magnesium alloy, giving it a very robust feeling."

Olympus is going to release the latest flagship model of their rugged compact digital camera series - OLYMPUS STYLUS TG-3 Tough - for about ¥48,000 in the beginning of July.

The new model adds a macro photography mode that enables an approach of as close as 10mm to an object from its lens. In that mode, it can zoom up to 6.9X when the focal distance is 100mm (35mm equivalent), and when used in conjunction with super-resolution zoom, it is able to shoot the object in 13.8X zoom.
