In Japan, there are lots of restaurants offering an all-you-can-eat or all-you-can-drink service, which means you can eat as much Yakiniku (Japanese BBQ), sushi, alcoholic drinks or sweets as you want (menu differs depending on the restaurant) for a certain amount of time. However, we have never heard of an All-you-can-eat Convenience Store…

Freshness Burger, one of Japan's largest homegrown burger chains, is going to start selling an egg benedict-like burger called Salmon Cheese Egg Burger (¥590) and Salmon Egg Burger (¥490).

Oh Family Mart, you care so much about steamed buns…

Family Mart is going to release cute nikuman versions of Gachapin and Mukku. They were born in the old-school Japanese TV program for children "Hirake! Ponkikki" and are still much loved characters.

Really?

The Japanese reasonably priced rotating Sushi chain, Kura Corportation, known as Kura Zushi in Japan, just unveiled 2 new questionable sushi dishes: Caramel Banana Sushi and Caramel Corn Mayo.

They were created as a collaboration project between Kura Corporation and the Japanese major confectionery company, Morinaga & Company. They're going to be available for a limited time until July 17.

2 new drinks, each using a whole banana will be available at Starbucks Japan for a limited time only, from April 16 until May 11.

They are Fresh Banana & Chocolate Cream Frappuccino and Fresh Banana & Caramel Cream Frappuccino. This is the first time for Starbucks Japan to use a whole fruit in a single drink.

Fresh Banana & Chocolate Cream Frappuccino is a chocolate flavored banana frappuccino with chocolate brown, whipped cream and chocolate sauce on top.

Major Japanese instant noodle vendor, Acecook, is going to start a new instant noodle series, EDGE, and they are going to introduce outrageous noodle products from now on. Valentine's day is just around the corner.

In the shadow of Family Mart's unique steamed bun release rush, we got to know that another Japanese major convenience store Ministop recently started selling a weird one - Napolitan-man.

Fresh miso soup anytime you want!

Marukome, Japanese miso paste manufacturer, has developed the One-shot Kiwami miso soup server for household use and they will start selling it on January 27.

You can be ready to have a bowl of miso soup simply after adding water and a dedicated liquid miso paste canister into the machine and a bowl with your favorite ingredients below. It looks like a compact espresso machine for miso soup and fits nicely in kitchens.

Yoriko Takahashi - March 10, 2014

Japan is awesome especially when it comes to food, culture, entertainment, and of course, geeky techie things, however Japan is not awesome at all regarding the coffee situation. It is usually very bitter or extremely watered down and diluted. One of the most popular types is called "American" at a regular cafe. If you order this, you're basically getting bitter coffee diluted with hot water.

Yoriko Takahashi - April 23, 2014

Today, a new type of Yakiniku (Japanese-style BBQ) restaurant called Tokkyu Yakiniku has opened in Osaka, Japan.

"Tokkyu", a part of the restaurant name, means express train in Japanese. The reason why the restaurant was named like that is obvious: at the restaurant, all the dishes and drinks are delivered on a moving plate on a train track. Yes, it's like a Kaiten-sushi / Rotating sushi / Sushi train, but instead of sushi, slices of meat come to your table by express train.
