Tokyo Street Shots: The Living Gallery (B/W SPECIAL)

Tokyo Street Shots - AkihabaraNews.com

To all TSS fans: Collection 4 is scheduled to be the final installment of the series, bringing us to 200 shots - a nice, round, satisfying number.

There will be three additional TSS sets, and thereafter we'll begin a new Living Gallery, which is very likely to be an experiment in hyper-local photo essay. Senior Contributor and all-around photoguy Nayalan Moodley, and his camera, have lot more to say about life here in the big, big city.

AkihabaraNews is Japan & Asia tech; we work to find the cool and cultural news accessible only to a boots-on-the-ground team. Our editors and contributors also provide perspective on everyday life: meeting the people, eating the foodtaking the train, using the tech, and walking the streets of this pulsating seethe of technology and social structure that, with approximately 36 million metro area inhabitants, is far and away the world’s largest city.

The Living Gallery
It can't be all tech all the time, so each week AkihabaraNews editors set out to collect 10 high-res shots of average, public Tokyo life. S
ome of the Street Shots scream and grab the eye, some are subtle and nuanced, and some are quite mundane. In any case, we feel lucky to be here and privileged to share the Tokyo that we see. Oh, and to add a bit of flavor every once and again, we also stir-in a few Osaka Street Shots.

Reader submissions are very welcome: just email your high-res Tokyo Street Shots, past or present, to info@, subject: TSS. We'll toss a shout-out and link to the media sharing site of your choice.

Leave a comment. Make a request. Share. Enjoy.

Licking Pikachu in Shibuya (GALLERY) - AkihabaraNews.com
If you have ever wanted to a lick a Pikachu, I can confirm that he/she/[insert your preferred gender here] tastes of mango. Yes, that’s right. If your childhood dreams of catching them all actually involved eating them all, you now can. Except, by all Pokémon, I actually mean mainly Pikachu.
[#3 of 2015's Top 15 Articles] Taking underwater photos of girls in bikinis wearing knee-high mecha-socks might be one of the better jobs ever to have been conceived in the history of work. And if one could also get those photos published in a book and sell it for money, the gig would definitely crack the top 10. Well, someone nailed it.
Hooters Japan Sending Delegates to Miss Hooters World Pageant

Here's How to Forget the World Cup
Japan might have made a less than stellar showing at that big soccer tournament in South America, but we can all move past that now - it’s okay - there’s another spectator event ready to take over, and it’s way better!

Race Queens - AkihabaraNews.com

Vital Team Members:
Subaru BRZ GT300

Okay let’s be honest, is there anything that could be more effective in motivating not only fans (mostly males), but also drivers (same thing) to get excited about racing? If anyone has any suggestions or alternatives, let us know in the comments. We dare you.

The Hikaru Skirt, a Fashion Statement that Demands Yet Defies Explanation.
One of the great things about living in Japan is knowing that there are a neverending string of things that you’ll never fully understand. The Hikaru Skirt (“hikaru” just means “shining”) is a pretty good example thereof. But as goofy as these might be, they do catch (and keep) the eye!

Sushi-Cat Update! (HD GALLERY) - AkihabaraNews.com

Some New Sushi Cats;
Some Old Sushi Cats

Well, we’ve learned that since our last check-in, there are a few new Sushi Cats in the collection - and it’s always a good day for Sushi Cats (neko-zushi). It’s a particularly good day for Badminton Geronimo over there. Pretty sure we need that on an iPhone case.

Tokyo Street Shots: The Living Gallery (Collection 5; Set #5 - End of an Era)
Senior Contributor Nayalan Moodley has produced more than 300 Tokyo Street Shots across 5 collections, and the super-popular series has been a ton of fun, but all good things must do what they do: this is the final TSS.
J-Taxis by Jordan Yerman - AkihabaraNews.com

Not Only are They Everywhere...
Japanese taxis are the most beautiful (and expensive) pieces of road-candy you could ever hope to see.

They exist in their own little auto-industry universe, still rocking the far-forward wing-mirrors for optimizing both the driver’s sight-lines and the passenger’s privacy.

iREX Robot Wrap-Up - AkihabaraNews.com
Japan’s premier robot expo is over, and all that remains of iREX 2013 are the things we learned, contacts we made, and the videos, photos, and desperate attempts to effectively communicate the breadth of what exactly went down. Something beyond “Wow, it was like… so many awesome robots.” Not so easy, that.
