Olympus - Rugged compact camera flagship model with improved macro shooting
Olympus is going to release the latest flagship model of their rugged compact digital camera series - OLYMPUS STYLUS TG-3 Tough - for about ¥48,000 in the beginning of July.
The new model adds a macro photography mode that enables an approach of as close as 10mm to an object from its lens. In that mode, it can zoom up to 6.9X when the focal distance is 100mm (35mm equivalent), and when used in conjunction with super-resolution zoom, it is able to shoot the object in 13.8X zoom.
It is 15-meter underwater waterproof/rustproof, 2.1-meter shock resistant, and -10 ℃ low temperature resistant. It even has kilogram-force load resistance to withstand up to 100kgf.
It features optical 5X zoom f2.0 lens (25mm–100mm 35mm equivalent), 1/2.3 inch 16MP backlight CMOS sensor, the TruePic VII image processor, the CMOS Shift Stabilization that has the algorithm of digital single-lens reflex cameras, 3 inch LCD monitor (0.46M dots), 36MB built-in memory, GPS and Electronic Compass functions built-in.
There are several useful shooting functionalities too: Maximum 240fps super-fast movie shooting ability called Hight Speed Movie, Time-Lapse Movie Function that enables creation of up to 10 seconds of a movie using photos taken in interval timer shooting and so on.
