Canon's EF interchangeable lens achieves 100 million units

100,000,000 EF lenses!

Canon today announced that on April 22, Canon achieved production of one hundred million of its EF lens (interchangeable lens for the EOS series). As an interchangeable lens, EF lens for the EOS series became the most manufactured camera lens in the world.

Canon started manufacturing the EF lens in 1987. The 100 millionth model that was manufactured was the "EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x".

Canon is going to release the new PowerShot digital camera - PowerShot SX400 IS - on August 7.

PowerShot SX400 IS has an optical 30X zoom lens covering a range of 24-720mm (35mm equivalent). By simultaneously using a digital zoom function "Progressive Fine Zoom", it boosts its zoom up to 60X and keeps its high-resolution. It also has DIGIC 4+ image processor and brings 0.19 seconds ultra-fast auto focus and 0.22 seconds release time lag.

From Canon's compact digital camera IXY series, the new IXY 130 will be released on August 7.

IXY 130 is only 22.1mm-thick. It features an optical 8X zoom lens covering a range of 28-224mm (35mm equivalent), and the Progressive Fine Zoom function allows you to shoot in 16X zoom.

There is an optical image stabilizer function called Multi Scene IS that detects scenes and offers the image stabilizing effect that is best for the scene.
 

2 new colors, Bay Blue and Red, are added to the Canon's EOS M2 mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera. They are scheduled to go on sale in early August.

Canon has just proudly announced that the total production volume of Canon's EOS series - cameras with interchangeable lenses - has exceeded 70 million units.

The EOS series started with the single-lens reflex camera "EOS 650", which was released on March 2, 1987. As digital single-lens reflex cameras began to be widely popular in the early 2000s, an increase in EOS production volume accelerated as well.

Canon has revealed their new entry-level digital single lens reflex camera model - EOS Kiss X70 - will be available for a reasonable price of about ¥50,840 in late March. Its lens kit with "EF-S18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS II" will be released for about ¥60,800 at the same timing as well.

Canon - Compact & light telephoto lens from the EOS series

 

Canon is going to release the compact and light telephoto lens "EF-S55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM" with refined image stabilization system from their EOS series on September 12. It's ¥50,000.

Focus mechanism with the new type 6 group zoom and focus mechanism stepping motor enable smooth, silent auto focus while shooting a moving image. Focus distance is only 0.85m while the focus distance of the previous model is 1.1 m.

 

Canon's digital single-lens reflex camera entry model "EOS Kiss X7" has been popular since it was released in November 2013 especially among younger generations.

Canon has announced the release of the EOS Kiss X7i Triple Zoom Kit. The price will be ¥143,800.

It comes with the DSLR EOS Kiss X7i camera, released in April 2013, and 3 different lenses (EF-S 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM, EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM, and EF-S 10-18mm F4.5-5.6 IS STM). With these 3 lenses, you are able to cover a 35mm equivalent focal range of 16-400mm.

Canon is releasing "Macro Ring Light MR-14EX II" for its EOS series for ¥80,000 on April 25.

It is an external strobe light that gives a flash light evenly to subjects and it's suitable for macro photography. There is a two-lamp light-emitting system. You have the option of emitting light from only a single lamp and you can control the light amount.

The guide number is 14 (ISO 100, m).

EF-S10-18mm F4.5-5.6 IS STM

The second of 2 new ultra-wide lenses for EOS (digital single lens reflex camera) series announced today by Canon for release next month.

This latest EF-S lens offers a 35mm equivalent focal range of 16-29mm. The lens construction consists of 14 elements in 11 groups. By applying a plastic-molded aspheric lens element, it became smaller and lighter than the previous model.

EF16-35mm F4L IS USM

The first of 2 new ultra-wide lenses for EOS (digital single lens reflex camera) series announced today by Canon for release next month.

It belongs to Canon's high-performance L lens series. It is an F4 wide lens covering the focal range 16-35mm. 3 aspheric lens elements including a glass-molded aspheric lens element are used. The lens construction consists of 16 elements in 12 groups.

From Canon's EF lens series, the CINE-SERVO lens "CN20×50 IAS H/E1 (EF Mount)" and "CN20×50 IAS H/P1 (PL Mount)" will be released in late April, 2015.

The price of both models will be about ¥8,100,000 (~$80,000).

Canon changed the release day of their new DSLR - EOS 7D Mark II - to October 30. They originally planned to release it in early November.

Canon is going to release a new compact HD video camera with improved auto focus function - EOS C100 Mark II - from their CINEMA EOS SYSTEM (cinema camera system) series in late December.

The price will be around 550,000 yen. The lens kit, which comes with an EF24-105mm F4 L IS USM lens, is also scheduled to be released for about 620,000 yen in early February.

During the upcoming summer vacation season for schools, Canon will hold Canon Kids Park 2014 and provide multiple events for kids to learn something related to cameras in an enjoyable way.
