Our local galleries are nice, and for the most part, they get the job done.

The images we post on Facebook are great for late-breaking, man on the street, catch as catch can J-tech coolness.

But when it comes to the high-res presentation of a well assembled flickr gallery, well, flickr's hard to beat. And we're not getting kickbacks to say so, but even for the average photographer or simple snapshotter - a terabyte of free storage? Uhhhh, yes please.

Social

FacebookTwitterYouTube, and Instagram, flickr also has become a social media service: photos, video, comments, likes, and the ability to share things of interest among your friends/followers/the public.

Lots and Lots of Photos
Our flickr presence reaches all the way back to 2008 and includes ~4000 high-res photos of Japanese tech, culture, landscape, and more. Jump into our Photostream here, or browse for a specific topic among our 160+ Albums.

We shoot with everything from a Nikon D90 with a big beefy lens, to the Sony Cyber-Shot RX-100, to a Panasonic Lumix GH3 (GH4 when we can get our hands on one) a few iPhone 5Ss, and an Android device here and there as well (admittedly, smartphones struggle to qualify as high-res, but on occasion that's what's needed to get the job done!).

Very Big Game Show
If you haven't been to Makuhari Messe before, know that 'convention center' doesn't quite do it justice. No, 'stadium' is a closer approximation of the venue's size and footprint on the northeastern edge of Tokyo Bay [MAP], part of the Tokyo Metro Area, but actually in Chiba Prefecture (not far from from Tokyo Disney Land).

It’s Just Different Over Here
As with almost every spot of Western culture that Japan Hoovers up, in accordance with the nuance of local tastes, i.e., straight-up Borg-like assimilative capabilities, the institution of Star Wars has been exhaustively Japanified. The same popular characters are popular, but often they’re just doing other stuff...

Honda XS1 Concept - AkihabaraNews.com

Anyone can set up a camera for long exposure shots, but there’s undeniable artistry in choosing one’s subject matter, mastering the composition process, and holding true to a theme; Tokyo, a contemplation of the profound socio-technological complexity of the largest city in human history, delivers an exemplar thereof.

Squee! the System
Mainstream Japanese society is boring. One could argue that mainstream society globally is never exciting, but the homogenous nature and stubborn adherence to routines and social hierarchies make this island nation particularly dull.
