Japanese Technology from the Future Friday!

JTFF - Japanese Technology from the Future Friday! - AkihabaraNews.com

This week it’s all about a European pharmaceutical packaging company opening a huge new facility in Japan. Thereafter, it's not about much of anything. Sometimes, yes, sometimes, the future is just ferociously mundane. You could go back and read last week's JTFF, because we really had our righteously indignant (and totally correct and justified) snark on.

Welcome to Japanese Technology from the Future Friday!
It’s already Friday west of the international dateline – here in Japan, it’s totally the future. The weekly JTFF is our somewhat Technosnarky coverage of 2-5 particularly important, specifically Japan-related tech stories. Get yourself hip to the micro & macro that went down while North America was sleeping – check in with Akihabara News every Friday morning and BOOM! Ahead of the game, you win.

• Bosch Packaging Opens New Facility in Japan
Now this is interesting. It’s not too often that massive corporate entities - foreign ones, that is - opt to set up shop here in Japan. Bosch Packaging, a Western European-based conglomerate that seems to have some kind of presence everywhere over there, turns out is also well represented here in Asia. Now, packaging, particularly that of pharmaceuticals and the quality control involved therein, while vital in modern times for a species that rarely lived beyond 40 for several hundred thousand years, is not the sexiest topic in the world. But, we should on occasion look into the windows of those industries working largely unnoticed in the background, yet essential in maintaining our comfortable, long lives. So yeah, setting up here in Japan is actually a shrewd move for Bosch; after all, Japanese society ain’t getting any younger, is running out of kids, and since old people do like/need their pharmaceuticals, well… yeah, shrewd. As a side note, in reflection on the amazing variety of dorkiness our species produces, the JTFF invites you to imagine what the people who earnestly read Packaging Europe must look like. Gotta be some fascinating mammals, they.

And that's it for tonight, kids. As tech news goes, today the future is kind of a dry, chalky sandwich made of cardboard. Do join us next week though - we're sure to find more to poke fun at, wax geeky on, and, as per usual, chances are high that the hard of thinking will boil the JTFF's blood once again. So, until then, then.

That was the JTFF, and live from the future – that is all.
