Programmable current amplifier for tiny current signals

NF Corporation provides electronic measuring instruments and power supplies for use in R&D and production lines. The company also provides electronic components and control circuits for satellites and the Hayabusa spacecraft. The programmable current amplifier CA5350, recently developed by NF to measure tiny signals, amplifies extremely small current signals from sensors. This product's performance, capabilities, and ease of use make it possible to amplify signals from a variety of current output sensors.

"The gain can be set over a wide range easily, using the front panel. Other companies also offer similar amps, but this one responds many times faster. Fast response is easy to obtain if you sacrifice stability. But the biggest feature of this amp is, it achieves both stability and fast response."

This product contains modules incorporating such new technologies as circuits that reduce feedback capacity, which affects the characteristics of a current amplifier, to zero, and circuits that aren't easily affected by input capacity.

"This amp contains function modules developed by us. Gain is switched among seven hybrid ICs. These modules bring together technologies unique to NF for achieving fast response, stability, and a good balance between the two."

The CA5350 also includes a filter to eliminate the noise that results from fast response, and a current suppression function, to cancel dark current. This amplifier is presently used for current detection in atomic force microscopes (AFMs) and scanning electron microscopes (SEMs), and advanced research on semiconductor devices and micro electro mechanical systems, or MEMS. In Japan, NF launched the product in September 2013. The company will also market this product for R&D applications overseas.
