Sony - Hi-Res audio stereo system and speaker

Sony is going to release high-resolution audio stereo system MAP-S1 for about ¥65,000 on April 19. New speaker SS-HW1 which is designed to be used with MAP-S1 will be released for about ¥56,000 on the same day.

The audio stereo system MAP-S1 is able to play high-resolution audio including DSD audio (2.8MHz). It is compatible with DLNA and AirPlay, and it has Wi-Fi built-in.

It features the digital amp "S-Master HX" optimized for high-resolution audio and the technology "DSEE HX" to upscale compressed sound source and expand CD sounds up to 192kHz/24bit equivalent for high-resolution quality. It is able to upscale the compressed sound saved in a PC or USB memory, or audio from radio, or sound in a mobile device connected via Bluetooth network. It can play DND, linear PCM (WAC, AIFF), MP3, WMA, AAC, FLAC, ALAC, and ATRAC formats.

The speaker SS-HW1 is a high-resolution speaker with a 130mm cone woofer, a 25mm soft dome tweeter, and 2 19mm soft dome super tweeters. Placing super tweeters at the front and top allows it to spread the high-quality sound in a big area.

Sony announced that today they have released a special Walkman model in collaboration with a Japanese visual-kei band, the GazettE, in a limited quantity.

The limited edition "the GazettE Model" is made based on Walkman's F series and S series. An original design is stamped on the backside, and original music video "LAST HEAVEN", photos, and wallpapers are pre-installed.

Sony is going to release a compact, slick all-in-one audio system on April 19. There will be 2 models available: "CMT-X7CD" with Wi-Fi for about ¥33,000 and "CMT-X5CD" without Wi-Fi for about ¥23,000.

You can listen to music with the audio system by connecting with multiple devices such as WALKMAN, iPhone/iPad/iPod, smartphone, PC, USB memory, etc. directly or via Bluetooth network. It supports NFC, apt-X/AAC codec, and FM/AM tuner. Although it has a slim body, it also has a CD player built-in!

Sony's new headphones MDR-1ABT is compatible with their newly-developed codec, LDAC, which can transmit information volume 3 times greater than regular SBC/A2DP codecs via Bluetooth. MDR-1ABT will be released for approximately ¥40,000 yen on March 21.

Sony is going to release the special Disney & Snoopy versions of their WALKMAN S (NW-S780/NW-S780K) only from March 3 until May 7.

You can choose your favorite character, inscribe your initials and pick the font, and then print them on the back of the device.

6 colors of the WALKMAN S device are available: Vivid Pink, Blue, White, Light Pink, Green, and Black.

The NW-S780K model includes a separate speaker which the WALKMAN S can plug into.

Toshiba is going to release new audio system REGZA Sound System RSS-AZ77 in late August.

REGZA Sound System RSS-AZ77 consists of 3 cylindrical parts: a dual drive woofer (maximum output 40W) and 2 satellite speakers (maximum output 20W+20W), and it produces a powerful and clear TV sound. It's used by placement behind a TV so that it doesn't interfere with your view while you watch TV.

Sony is releasing the new flagship model of its Hi-Res Walkman ZX series (NW-ZX2) on February 14. It has great capability but the price is high - ¥120,000 (about US$1,000)!


From JVC Kenwood's JVC brand, new Bluetooth audio component system "NX-W5" will be out for about ¥35,000 in early November.

"NX-W5" consist of a unit and the unit includes a CD player (you insert a CD from top to bottom), AM/FM tuner, USB terminal, amplifier, and speaker. The control buttons are located at the bottom and a soft lighting illuminates the buttons. It has a sleep timer function and daily timer function (that increases the sound volume gradually up to the level you set).

Roland is going to release a high-powered portable amp for street musicians - CUBE Street EX - on April 25.

CUBE Street EX can play powerful 50W (25W+25W) sound with 8 size AA batteries. It provides 3 levels of Power Mode so that you can adjust the number of hours of use and the maximum volume of sound:
