Yahoo! Japan - Your search of "3.11" generates a donation
The Great East Japan Earthquake happened at 2:46 P.M. on this day 3 years ago.
Although people living in the non-damaged areas like me tend to forget the tragedy on regular busy days, there are still lots of people affected in varying degrees since the day of the earthquake.
Many AkihabaraNews readers might live outside of the damaged area, but there are things you can do for the victims remotely.
For example, today only, for all searches of "3.11" at Yahoo! JAPAN (http://search.yahoo.co.jp/) by 11:59 P.M. March 11 in Japan time, Yahoo will donate 10 yen per search, per browser to a financial group in the disaster area.
The financial group supports sports and educational activities for children living in 3 prefectures in Tohoku which were damaged the most, Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima. Yahoo will donate up to 5 million yen (representing searches through 500,000 unique browsers).
Also, Yahoo is currently offering a Search for 3.11 Visualizer that displays the earthquake related keywords searched from March 11, 2011 through January 29, 2014, and the size of each keyword tells its search numbers. By clicking the timeline, you will find out what kind of information users needed at the timeframe selected.
