SwitchScience - RAPIRO - Adorable humanoid robot to assemble

SwitchScience has released the construction kit for a humanoid robot called RAPIRO.

RAPIRO consists of 30 plastic parts, 12 servo motors (2 per leg, 3 per arm, 1 for the waist, and 1 for the neck). Full color LEDs are used for the eyes.

You can assemble the kit using only a screwdriver.

The accompanying control board is compatible with Arduino (an open-source electronics prototyping platform), which lowers the barrier of programming for users. Using the Arduino integrated development environment (IDE), you can program RAPIRO to do many things, such as to dance or to clean up.

The robot is also capable of having tiny inexpensive Linux PC Raspberry Pi in the robot's head so that it is able to connect to external devices via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi network. It is also possible to add a Raspberry Pi camera module.

It's powered through an AC adapter or nickel-metal hydride batteries.

Takara Tomy's new entertainment robot "Robi jr." will debut at Japan Robot Week 2014 that will take place from October 15th through October 17th.

Takara Tomy already announced the release of Robi jr. from their entertainment robot Omnibot series, and it is scheduled to be out on December 11th.

Sharp Launching Robot Smartphone "RoBoHoN"
A robot-style smartphone "RoBoHoN" will be released in early 2016. It's invented by Sharp and a robot genius, Tomotaka Takahashi. In addition to provide basic smartphone features, RoBoHoN is able to talk, walk, dance, and recognize human faces. It can also become a projector.
