Sigma dp2 Quattro Interview - AkihabaraNews.com

Wild form factor for a very traditional albeit high tech tool.

Were there a ‘best of show’ award for cameras at this year’s CP+ Camera and Photo Imaging expo, the new dp2 Quattro from Sigma would definitely be a contender. It’s functional yet eye catching form definitely had heads turning and internet tongues wagging.

We got to take a closer look at the pre release prototypes at the show and caught up with Akiko Adachi who gave us a little more info on why it is the way it is and what they plan to achieve with it.

dp2 Quattro Look and Feel
After a brief hands on, we can say that the physical design does work extremely well. It’s comfortable, stable, and well balanced for both meaty mitts and delicate digits. Adding to Sigma’s lensmaking renown, the Foveon sensor and the mighty (sounding) ‘Three-Layer Ultimate Engine,’ should make the dp Quattro series pretty good purist cameras.

The lack of video in 2014, however, even if the video was of slightly substandard quality (couldn’t be worse than Nikon’s right?), seems a significant oversight.

Either way, the camera’s bound to make waves when it lands. Take a look at the gallery and video and let us know if you think it could be the shooter for you.
