Wild form factor for a very traditional albeit high tech tool.

Were there a ‘best of show’ award for cameras at this year’s CP+ Camera and Photo Imaging expo, the new dp2 Quattro from Sigma would definitely be a contender. It’s functional yet eye catching form definitely had heads turning and internet tongues wagging.

We got to take a closer look at the pre release prototypes at the show and caught up with Akiko Adachi who gave us a little more info on why it is the way it is and what they plan to achieve with it.

dp2 Quattro Look and Feel
After a brief hands on, we can say that the physical design does work extremely well. It’s comfortable, stable, and well balanced for both meaty mitts and delicate digits. Adding to Sigma’s lensmaking renown, the Foveon sensor and the mighty (sounding) ‘Three-Layer Ultimate Engine,’ should make the dp Quattro series pretty good purist cameras.

The lack of video in 2014, however, even if the video was of slightly substandard quality (couldn’t be worse than Nikon’s right?), seems a significant oversight.

Either way, the camera’s bound to make waves when it lands. Take a look at the gallery and video and let us know if you think it could be the shooter for you.

Olympus is going to release an exclusive limited edition camera kit called OM-D E-M10 Limited Edition Kit on June 27. The estimated price is 110,000 yen.

E-M10 is an entry-level OM-D series mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera and it was released in February 2014.

Canon has just proudly announced that the total production volume of Canon's EOS series - cameras with interchangeable lenses - has exceeded 70 million units.

Canon has revealed their new entry-level digital single lens reflex camera model - EOS Kiss X70 - will be available for a reasonable price of about ¥50,840 in late March. Its lens kit with "EF-S18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS II" will be released for about ¥60,800 at the same timing as well.

New athletic model - Mitamanma Megane Goggles - from Thanko's miniature camera built-in glasses series called "Mitamanma Megane" - is out.

Nikon's new mirrorless camera Nikon 1 J4 will be released on April 24. 4 colors will be available: Silver, White, Black and Orange.

Like its upper model Nikon 1 V3, Nikon 1 J4 supports the world's fastest 20fps continuous shooting with autofocus tracking (up to 60 fps when autofocus is locked).  

Canon has announced the release of the EOS Kiss X7i Triple Zoom Kit. The price will be ¥143,800.

It comes with the DSLR EOS Kiss X7i camera, released in April 2013, and 3 different lenses (EF-S 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM, EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM, and EF-S 10-18mm F4.5-5.6 IS STM). With these 3 lenses, you are able to cover a 35mm equivalent focal range of 16-400mm.

KenkoTokina, Japanese manufacturer and distributor of optical products and photographic accessories, is going to release a compact digital camera DSC1655Z on October 20.

DSC1655Z will be sold for only 9,400 yen, however it features a Time-Lapse function that takes still images at regular time intervals and automatically makes a movie by putting them together. You can set the interval for 30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, or 60 minutes.

Canon's digital single-lens reflex camera entry model "EOS Kiss X7" has been popular since it was released in November 2013 especially among younger generations.

The first model, the NX30, is an upgrade of the existing NX20 that comes with a new 20.3Mpix sensor designed for better low light shooting and improved fast hybrid AF that only needs 80ms to find is target. The NX30 comes with a nice Super AMOLED Touchscreen as well as a 16-50mm lens kit.
