Japanese Technology from the Future Friday!

This week we marvel at how Japan has now purchased a billion tons of Australia, and we lament the fact that increasing levels of developmental disability have taken all the fun out of playfully insulting and berating Japanese anti-nuclear activists. It’s just so...sad now.

JTFF - Japanese Technology from the Future Friday! - AkihabaraNews.com

This week Japan’s running into some sticky situations with its Turkish nuclear tech dealings (saw that coming), Japan's Sony was pretty awesome at CES, but another nation’s tech overshadowed all that, and Nintendo, despite selling a whole lotta gear in 2013, is still in some hot, red water.

Japanese Technology from the Future Friday! - AkihabaraNews.com

This week an Indian company has found a way to get its energy saving tech into 20% of the computers manufactured here in Japan, and a Japanese firm has decided that, in addition to the allure of football and famous spicy chicken parts, Buffalo, NY is the place to set up a new shop for solar panel manufacturing!

JTFF - Japanese Technology from the Future Friday! - AkihabaraNews.com

This week China's getting international train tech contracts instead of Japan, but it's in Pakistan so Japan just kinda shrugs, China's Puxing Energy and Japan's NEC have canceled the East Asian War in favor of cooperating on a huge energy grid project, and there's just no easy way to say it: 2014 INTERNATIONAL TOKYO TOY SHOW!

Japanese Technology from the Future Friday! - AkihabaraNews.com

This week it's weird that Japanese people still love CDs, Japan’s trying to help Myanmar by ironically exporting more energy technology, and some really profound developments in reproductive technology, for which the JTFF finally gets to use the word “sperm.”

Solar Diversification: Japanese Farmers' Invisible New Cash Crop
Approximately 60% of those actively farming here in Japan are over 65 years old, and only 10% are under 50. Push out 30 years, and even with continued subsidies and such, farmers are going to literally vanish. But is there a silver lining...somewhere?
JTFF - Japanese Technology from the Future Friday!

This week it's “Kirobo” the monolingual robot arriving at the ISS (along with other stuff - thanks, Japan!), and Hilarious Yet Not Parts #1 & #2, the kind of fossil fuel development vs. carbon credit investment irony-pointing-out that only the JTFF can deliver!

Honda to Build New Test Course and Mega Solar System in Tochigi Pref., Japan

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced plans that it will build a new test course and mega solar system in the city of Sakura in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan.

Originally planned in 2007, but postponed due to the economic slowdown, Honda's new test course will be approximately 25 hectares in size and will be utilized for the development of advanced safety technologies.  The original plan was for a large-scale, high-speed 4km circuit, but the company decided to modify the purpose and scale of the project.
