Nikon - COOLPIX AW120 - Compact tough model camera for outdoor activities

Nikon's COOLPIX AW120 is a rugged model that is waterproof up to 18-meters underwater, IP6X rustproof, shockproof up to a 2-meter drop, and -10 degree cold resistant. It will be released on February 27 for about ¥43,000.

3 colors will be available: Sunshine Orange, Cool Black, and Camouflage Green.

COOLPIX AW120 features an optical 5X zoom NIKKOR lens covering a focal length of 4.3-21.5mm (equivalent to 24-120mm in 35mm format), 1/2.3 backlight CMOS sensor (effective 16.05MP), 5-axis image stabilizer, 3-inch Organic EL monitor (0.92M dots), 329MB built-in memory and Wi-Fi. It is capable of macro photography of 1-centimeter distance from an object.

It also has GPS, a map of the world, and newly added GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System) functionalities, which makes measuring time of location information quicker and more accurate compared with previous models.

From Sony's compact digital Cyber-shot series, new high-end model RX100 III (DSC-RX100M3) will be released on May 30. The estimated price is ¥88,000.

Since Canon's first digital camera EOS DCS 3 was released in 1995, the total production of Canon's digital cameras, including compact digital cameras and digital cameras with interchangeable lenses, finally marked 250,000,000 as of January 31, 2014.

Besides the high-end rugged camera "RICOH WG-4" and "RICOH WG-4 GPS", Ricoh Imaging announced that they will also release the standard model RICOH WG-20 for the price of about ¥20,000-¥25,000 in late February.

Sony designed the HDR-AZ1 with a focus on downsizing and developed it on the assumption that users will control it through the live-view remote control "RM-LVR2V", which comes with a remote control kit (HDR-AZ1VR). Panasonic announced that they are going to release the world's first compact digital camera with 4K video recording capability - LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 - on July 17.

It will be sold for around 100,000 yen.

LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 is able to record 4K video (3,840×2,160) at up to 30 fps in the MP4 format. There is also a built-in functionality called "4K PHOTO" to capture 8MP images in the 4K video footage. It can also output 1920×1080 60fps full HD resolution video.

Sony announced that they are going to release the new mirrorless camera α7S for about ¥230,000 on June 20 in Japan.

The main features of the α7S are that it's able to shoot 4K videos and also able to shoot ultra-high sensitivity ISO range up to 409600.
