Sony selling its VAIO business?
Today, it was reported that Sony will sell its VAIO PC brand business to the Tokyo-based investment fund, Japan Industrial Partners, Inc.
A short time after this was reported, Sony made a comment on the report that this wasn't their announcement, however, they did not deny the fact that they are going to give up VAIO. They also said that they have been considering various options for their PC business.
One of these options, according to multiple news sources, is that Sony will establish a new corporation with Japan Industrial Partners, Inc. for the domestic PC business, and will sell their VAIO business to this new corporation.
Additionally, regarding their international PC business, they are making a study into possible withdrawal from the market.
This comes in the wake of the announcement on January 30, that NEC will sell their affiliate company, NEC BIGLOBE, a leading Internet Service Provider, to Japan Industrial Partners, Inc.
