Sony - α 5000 - the world's lightest mirrorless camera with APS-C image sensor

Sony is going to release new entry model mirrorless camera α 5000 with Wi-Fi & NFC built-in on February 7.

It's the world's lightest mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (109.6x35.7x62.8mm, 210g) that has an APS-C size image sensor. It comes in the following colors: black, silver, white and pink.

α 5000 will be sold as a lens kit:

- α 5000 Power Zoom Lens Kit ILCE-5000L with E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS lens - about ¥53,000
- α 5000 Double Zoom Lens Kit ILCE-5000Y with E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS lens and E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 OSS lens - about ¥78,000

The black model has a lens in black and the other models have a lens in silver.

α 5000 has Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor (20.1 million effective pixels) and BIONZ X image processor, the same as α7 and α7R (the α series's flagship models), maximum 16000 ISO sensitivity and 180-degree tiltable 3-inch TFT monitor.

Nikon announced that they are going to start selling a new compact digital single reflex camera model with full size sensor - "D610" - on October 19.

Major features such as full size sensor, image processor, AF sensor, etc. are the same as the previous model "D600", however, continuous shooting speed was improved to 6fps and the new "Silent Continuous Shooting Mode", that enables continuous shooting at 3fps in the silent mode, was added.

 

Good news coming from Olympus.

Olympus released a press release today in which they apologized about a short supply of their new camera's lens kit - "OLYMPUS OM-D E-M1 12-40mmF2.8 Lens Kit" - that is scheduled to be out on October 19.

The reason for the shortage is that they have gotten more orders than expected.

Price: ¥219,800 (including 3-Year warranty)

 

 

Sony is going to release the hand-held XDCAM MemoryCam recorder PXW-X70 as their latest professional-use video camera

 

Panasonic has announced the Lumix GM, an ultra compact 16MP Micro Four Thirds camera, which will be released in Japan in late November.

"This camera uses the same sensor and engine as the GX7 which was released last month. The GX' features extremely high image quality and has received various awards around the world. We have packed the high image quality of the GX7 into this camera."
