ARES - Android 4.0 smartwatch enables you to call, email and use apps

ARES Inc., Japanese sports GPS device production company, is going to release watch-style Android device ARES EC309 for 29,800 yen in the beginning of February. It allows you to do data communication and make a phone call via a 3G (WCDMA) connection with a micro SIM.

Unlike a regular watch style device that works well by connecting with a smartphone via Bluetooth, ARES EC309 enables you to connect internet, send emails, download applications bought from Google Play directly.

The OS is Android 4.0. It features a 1.2GHz dual core CPU, 512MB memory, 4GB flash memory, a touch screen (240x240 dots), 2 million pixels camera, GPS, G sensor, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth4.0, waterproof performance, and FM radio.

Don't Call it a Smartwatch!

started selling an Android 4.0 wristwatch smartphone - AR-EC309 - for ¥37,584 (~$380.00).

AR-EC309 is not a smartwatch. It's a SIM-unlocked smartphone. As it's a stand-alone data device, you can make phone calls via Skype or Line as well as accessing the internet and sending messages just like a smartphone - but with no need to pair up with another device via Bluetooth.

Both devices have a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display (320x320). They can work with Samsung smartphones so emails, phone calls, SNS messages and so on will be noticed on the display of Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo.

Run'a is going to release a watch with Doraemon design, the "Doratch '14-'15 Limited Edition", to celebrate Doraemon's birthday (September 3, 2112).

2 models will be available on September 3, and both of them will be sold for ¥21,120 and are available in a limited quantity - only 2,112 watches - both numbers commemorating Doraemon's birthday.

Casio is going to release the rugged BABY-G "BGA-1400" on November 28.
