Sony's New TV Ad: Stumbling Giant Finally Standing Up Straight? (VIDEO)

Sony Getting its Groove Back - AkihabaraNews.com

Sony Desperate to Get Their Groove Back
...because they haven't been cool in a long time. They've lost billions of dollars, needlessly killed off amazing, well-liked products, they keep making the PSP and what seems like 163 variations of the VAIO computer.

After eating their own feet for like a decade, it seems they might finally be coming around. In doing so, continuing a broad marketing push and still high from their CES throwdown, Sony debuted a somewhat disjointed though admittedly fun new ad during last weekend's record-breaking telecast of the Golden Globe Awards.

Titled and themed "Join Together," and also using the song - which must have cost a fortune to clear (unless Sony owns The Who's catalog?) - the ad mashes up old tape decks and headphones with sexy new VAIOs, the PS4, and a chunky Spike LeeThe message, we think, is that Sony doesn't really make anything, they just add 1 + 1 and the awesome, the creative, and the feelings associated therewith come out the other end. Like, you know, in metaphor.

What's your take? Can Sony inspire us once again? Is "confusion" the feeling you get from this ad?

Mirrored TOKYO Will Melt Your Brain (FLASHBACKERY)
The contiguous urbanization, beginning at Tokyo Bay, crawls westward and disappears beneath the sky, farther than we can see - not only by distance, but also due to the basic curvature of the earth. It’s just that vast. Okay, now double that. Twist and turn. Reflect. Go upside down and merge it all together in a videographic collage...

Sony designed the HDR-AZ1 with a focus on downsizing and developed it on the assumption that users will control it through the live-view remote control "RM-LVR2V", which comes with a remote control kit (HDR-AZ1VR). So, the HDR-AZ1's control functions were simplified and it has only the Start/Stop button for recording and On/Off for Wi-Fi connection.

Sony has taken things a bit further: the new 5-axis in-body stabilization can apparently work TOGETHER with the optical image stabilization built into sony’s E-Mount lenses to get the combined best of both worlds. It obviously remains to be seen how well that works in reality, but this could be a game changer.

We have seen the LSPX-W1S in action, proper up-close and personal-like, and it was a bit beyond impressive. It's much more than frivolous luxury, however - Sony's insanity is methodical!
