Takara Tomy Arts is going to release a Natto mixing machine Rosanjin Natto Bachi on February 6.

Natto - fermented soy beans - is a favorite among Japanese. We usually eat it with rice for breakfast. It's smelly and slimy so most likely people will want to avoid eating it if they have never tried to before. However, if you are adventurous and get hooked on its mysterious flavor and texture, Natto will be irresistible for you.

It's said that the more you mix your Natto before eating it, the better and richer its taste becomes. So, Takara Tomy created a Natto mixing machine for those who really care a lot about their Natto.

After extensive research, Takara Tomy Arts discovered that mixing it exactly 424 times gives an optimal flavor to Natto. The key to this is giving it just the right amount of "neba neba" - this is that sticky, gooey goodness that makes the beans suspend from your chopsticks and makes your lips stick together. They have set the mixing machine to be able to mix it 424 times in only 1.5 minutes to achieve this goal quickly.



Also, Takara Tomy says that through their testing, the best timing to add soy sauce to Natto is when you reach 305 times, so a door for soy sauce insertion is installed on the mixing machine and automatically opens after the mixing hits 305 times.

At the convenience store chain, Ministop, now you can buy a savory Japanese Okonomiyaki that you can casually eat with one hand.

Okonomiyaki is a Japanese dish (sometimes referred to as a Japanese savory pancake) that you cook on a hot griddle and eat with a lot of special Okonomiyaki sauce, fish flakes, mayonnaise, and green dried seaweed on top. Kikkoman announced that they will start selling 3 new types of flavored soy milk: grape, ginger and Amazake (sweet alcoholic drink made from fermented rice) on August 18.

Honestly, when another AkihabaraNews editor told me there are new icky flavored soy milk products that will go on sale, I immediately thought what's so wrong about these flavors. They sound good!

Great news for Ramen fans in Europe! Omedetou!

Yokohama Ramen Museum announced that they are planning to open another Ramen Museum in Europe in less than 10 years. They will also mark the 20th anniversary of their ramen museum business tomorrow.

The visibility of Ramen has been increasing so much overseas. Proof of that is the fact that 150,000 foreigners visited the Yokohama Ramen Museum in 2013.

Village Vanguard, a Japanese popular chain variety store, started accepting pre-orders of the Skull Chupa Chups Case.

It's a skull-shaped case that is made only for storing Chupa Chups lollipops. It will be released for 8,800 yen in mid-December.

There is a key chain model and a necklace model, and 3 colors (gold, silver and black) will be available. The parts are made of brass.

Japanese KFC is going to start selling a humbug steak burger "Bistro-fu Hamburg Sand" on February 5. Are they trying to get new customers by releasing multiple non-chicken meals while their competitor McDonald's is suffering from the recent rotten chicken scandal?

SanktGallen, a microbrewery from Atsugi, Kanagawa prefecture, is going to release Sakura-mochi flavored beer -  called "Sakura" - in a limited quantity on February 27.

Sakura-mochi is a seasonal rice cake filled with sweet bean paste and wrapped in preserved cherry leaf. Less hops are used for this Sakura beer to maximize the Sakura flavors extracted from cherry blossom petals and leaves.

So, a famous blogger Miyachan invented a cold soba noodle dish that is cute and attractive to look at. It's a "TOTORO" Tororo Soba - Studio Ghibli's TOTORO-shaped buckwheat soba noodle with tororo (grated gooey Nagaimo yam)!

The Japanese reasonably priced rotating Sushi chain, Kura Corportation, known as Kura Zushi in Japan, just unveiled 2 new questionable sushi dishes: Caramel Banana Sushi and Caramel Corn Mayo.

They were created as a collaboration project between Kura Corporation and the Japanese major confectionery company, Morinaga & Company. They're going to be available for a limited time until July 17.

Major Japanese instant noodle vendor, Acecook, is going to start a new instant noodle series, EDGE, and they are going to introduce outrageous noodle products from now on. As its first shot, they are going to release a shocking (but something that suites recent tastes) instant noodle on January 13.
