Ghibli new movie to be out next summer - Joan G. Robinson's "When Marnie Was There"

Studio Ghibli announced that their next new movie will be made based on the British storywriter, Joan G. Robinson's When Marnie Was There with the Japanese title Omoide no Marnie, due to be out to the public in summer, 2014.

The director of the movie will be Hiromasa Yonebayashi. His debut movie as a director was The Secret World of Arrietty, which was released in 2010 by Studio Ghibli and made 9.25 billion yen at the box office. When Marnie Was There will be his 2nd directing role.

When Marnie Was There is about a shy girl, called Anna, who was placed with an elderly couple living in a small village by the sea.  Although Anna closed her mind to everyone and she spent her time alone every day, she became friends with a girl called Marnie. However, no village people knew about Marnie.

Studio Ghibli allows the backdrop of this Ghibli version of When Marnie Was There to be Japan.

Yonebayashi is expected to be one of the leading Ghibli directors now that Hayao Miyazaki has retired.
