Bandai - HAKO VISION - Gorgeous "projection mapping" on the palm of your hand

Projection mapping (also known as video mapping or spatial augmented reality) is projection technology displaying images on three-dimensional objects or empty spaces, and has gotten a lot of attention recently. It's often adopted as a part of an event, for example, the event marking the completion of the enormous project for the renovation of Tokyo station's main building.

Usually projection mapping shows take place at big buildings or areas, but if you use "HAKO VISON", which is going to be released by Bandai on January 27th for ¥500, you can enjoy small-scale projection mapping on the palm of you hand.

Set the accompanying clear plate and building figure inside the box, read the two-dimensional code on the side of the box with your smartphone, set your smartphone (display facing downward) on top of the box and start playing the image.

There are 2 models of HAKO VISION that will be released: "TOKYO HIKARI VISION"  at Tokyo Station (mentioned above), and "KARAKURI" at Tokyo National Museum. They both are miniature recreations of events that actually took place.

JTFF - Japanese Technology from the Future Friday! -

This week China's getting international train tech contracts instead of Japan, but it's in Pakistan so Japan just kinda shrugs, China's Puxing Energy and Japan's NEC have canceled the East Asian War in favor of cooperating on a huge energy grid project, and there's just no easy way to say it: 2014 INTERNATIONAL TOKYO TOY SHOW!
