HIKARI-TATAMI - Traditional Japanese tatami flooring gets an LED upgrade

Luminous tatami: the 1300-year-old Japanese tradition of tatami flooring finally reaches the next level.
Tatami is unique, traditional Japanese flooring, which is made by weaving soft rush grass. Aside from the fact that it smells good and looks beautiful, it has extra advantages, such as good sound insulation, temperature and humidity control, air cleaning properties, and durability.

We love tatami rooms, but after 1300 years of the same basic style, could we be getting a bit bored with it?

Murakami Sangyo Co., located in Kumamoto Prefecture in the Kyushu, southern Japan, has developed luminous tatami flooring called "HIKARI-TATAMI" (hikari means light in Japanese). It has built-in LED lighting; woven together with the soft rush grass is a translucent material that transmit the light, and the woven structure has stronger abrasion resistance performance.

When the light is on, HIKARI-TATAMI provides a relaxing, luxurious, high-class atmosphere to the room. When turned off, you can use it as a regular tatami flooring.

With HIKARI-TATAMI, you can upgrade your tatami room, or maybe you might want to start considering installing it to give one of your rooms a very Japanese style with an atmosphere of both tradition and modernism.  Perhaps you can make a small luxurious space in your washroom.
