"Washoku" (Japanese food) is going to be registered as a World Heritage cuisine!

The Agency for Cultural Affairs in Japan announced that "Washoku" (literally, "Japanese food"), the pride of the nation, was deemed appropriate to be registered as an intangible cultural heritage by a subsidiary organ of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).

An intangible cultural heritage is something that is part of the cultural assets of a community such as entertainment, social customs, ceremonies and festivals. In Japan, Nogaku Theatre, Gion festival's Yamahoko Junko, and Yuki-tsumugi (Japanese  silk craft) are all already registered as an intangible cultural heritage, but nothing related to food has yet been registered.

People believe that Japanese food is healthy and nutritious, and this fact has helped this style of cuisine to gain in popularity. Delicious dishes cooked with fresh ingredients, especially rich seasonal foods, served artistically, keep attracting people all over the world. Also, Japanese food is rich in diversity. Each region has different kinds of specialities because they are affected by climate and topography.  The Japanese have the advantage of natural, geographical and seasonal influences.

Not limited to gourmet food like sushi or kaiseki meals, we have lots of cheaper and enjoyable food options as well. Ramen and "Izakaya" restaurants started spreading in popularity overseas, so we hope other kinds of our favorites will be followed by them.

Lotteria, one of the major Japanese burger chains, is going to release Tochigi Wagyu Hamburg Steak Burger, a premium thick Wagyu (beef produced in Japan) patty burger with strawberry sauce, on September 29.

The premium burger will be sold for 1,300 yen (About 13USD), and it comes with either salad, french fries, or drink of your choice.

Fresh miso soup anytime you want!

Marukome, Japanese miso paste manufacturer, has developed the One-shot Kiwami miso soup server for household use and they will start selling it on January 27.

You can be ready to have a bowl of miso soup simply after adding water and a dedicated liquid miso paste canister into the machine and a bowl with your favorite ingredients below. It looks like a compact espresso machine for miso soup and fits nicely in kitchens.

This year is the 30th anniversary of the release in Japan of internationally loved ice cream brand, Häagen-Dazs.

To celebrate it, today they released 2 new seasonal flavors - 30th Anniversary Sakura (Sakura means cherry blossom in Japanese) and 30th Anniversary Rose. These 2 flavors are Häagen-Dazs's first flower-flavored ice creams.

Powdered cherry blossom petals, cherry sauce and salt are mixed in the softly-pink-colored Sakura flavored ice cream. It also has Sakura flavored sauce topping.

Lotteria's new "Tower Cheese Burger"(¥1,360) and "Ebi (shrimp) Tree Burger"(¥770), which are scheduled to be released on September 23 through October 9 for a limited time, will be sold in advance on ONLY 2 DAYS in the Tokyo area - for 500YEN!

This ¥500 campaign will take place on September 21 for the "Tower Cheese Burger", and on September 22 for the "Ebi Tree Burger".

Freshness Burger, one of Japan's largest homegrown burger chains, is going to start selling an egg benedict-like burger called Salmon Cheese Egg Burger (¥590) and Salmon Egg Burger (¥490).
