Christmas cake with Miki from The Idolmaster in a Santa costume

Some fun facts about Christmas here in Japan:

1) Christmas is not a family or religious event. It's a romantic date day for couples - almost like another Valentine's day.

2) Christmas songs already started playing in Japan - I already had to listen to them in the cafe in my neighborhood recently. It was still in SEPTEMBER!  By November 1st, it is in all cafes, supermarkets, department stores, streets, etc.

3) We order whole cakes decorated for Christmas. It's probably the best selling day for cake shops throughout the year.

Anyway, regarding a Christmas cake, how about one with a girl's figure on it for this year? The girl is Miki Hoshii from the video game "The Idolmaster" and she is in a Santa Clause costume!

The cake itself looks good too with champagne flavored whipped cream, diced peach and muscat flavored coating on top.

You can place the order in advance on Bandai's online website. It's 3,990 yen. They will ship the cake within Japan in December.

Some AkihabaraNews readers might remember that we featured Lotteria's 5-tier tower burgers, Tower Cheese Burger and Ebi (shrimp) Tree Burger about a year ago.

Lotteria is now conducting a campaign that you have a chance to win a 4GB USB drive of a full-sized Tower Cheese Burger (H12.5xW10xL10cm) or Ebi Tree Burger (H18.5xW10xL10cm).

SCENE IN TOKYO: Squid Snacks in Shinjuku!
Japanese food is pretty great, but when it comes to the epic range of water-dwelling animals that are consumed and their methods of preparation, non-Japanese can quickly come to the realization that, beyond novelty and stunt-eating for fun, things can get a little bit goofy, if not unsettling.

Probably for someone who likes chocolate mint flavor. But not for me!

Lotteria is going to release the new Hatsuzumi Mint Shake (Lotte Green Gum Flavor) on June 5. Hatsuzumi means "first picking" in Japanese.

Green Gum is a long-selling product that has been sold by Lotte, Lotteria's parent company, since 1957. It has fresh peppermint flavour with a pleasant cooling sensation.
