Honda - Civic Type R going for the fastest front wheel time at Nurburgring

At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Honda Motor Europe President, Manabu Nishimae, revealed details about the new "hotly anticipated" Civic Type R.

Although not due to go on sale until 2015, Honda has confirmed that the development team is at the famous Nurburgring circuit in Germany, carrying out extensive testing on the track.  Nishimae has confirmed that they are aiming to clock the fastest time for a front wheel drive car around the circuit, and "have already set a time approaching the lap record".

The car was shown at the show and is powered by a direct injection turbocharged 2-lifer engine and will deliver at least 280 PS.  Honda also says the car, with the 1.6 i-DTEC ENGINE will achieve impressively low CO2 emissions (from about 99g/km).
