Wacom Cintiq Companion mobile creative tablets

Adding to its line of Cintiq Pen Displays, Wacom has developed the Cintiq Companion, running Windows 8, and the Cintiq Companion Hybrid, running Android, which provide the capabilities of a Windows PC or Android tablet in the Cintiq itself, allowing them to be used as stand-alone tablets.

"We got requests from people who want to implement their ideas there and then when those ideas arise, or want to be able to create things anywhere, because it's easier to get ideas when you're out and about than when you're in the workplace."

"Our products are intended for both professionals and amateurs who aim to do their best creative work, and creators who want to produce graphics effectively."

"The Android models weigh 1.7 kg or 1.8 kg, depending on the battery capacity. Together with the stand, they weigh about 2 kg. You can carry them in one hand like this, and you can run apps to actually create illustrations. Also, like the Cintiq, they support 2,048 levels of pen pressure sensitivity, giving you exactly the same environment in a stand-alone form."

"The Android models have desktop mode, so you can connect to a PC and use them as a normal Cintiq. And you can sync the data you created in mobile mode, and use it on a PC to create even more fine-tuned graphics."

"The Android models will be released in September. The high-end model will be priced at 168,000 yen (~US$1,700), and the standard model at 158,000 yen (~US$1.600). The Windows 8 models will be released in October, and they'll be priced at 248,000 yen (~US$2,500) and 198,000 yen (~US$2,000)."
